Property code: BN002

A well-appointed property in the heart of Hay-on-Wye, ideal for families seeking to explore the beautiful landscape of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.

This family cottage is less than 500 metres from the centre of the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye where you will find a host of independent bookstores, welcoming cafes and restaurants, and pubs serving local ales. Stroll the ancient streets and discover the ruined castle in the heart of the town. Less than 200 metres from your cottage is the famous walking trail of Offa’s Dyke: pack a picnic and spend the day hiking the tranquil countryside. Ramble along the riverbank for a paddle at The Warren or take to the water on a kayak adventure along the River Wye. Hop in the saddle for a bike ride through the surrounding area, discovering the 12th-century Llanthony Priory (11.5 miles). For keen walkers, the rugged mountain of Pen-y-Fan (25 miles) is a must for magnificent views across the Brecon Beacons.

Step through the gate and cross the front terrace to reach the cottage’s front door. Decorated in neutral shades throughout, your holiday home has a warm and welcoming feel, retaining many period features. Unpack your provisions in the spacious kitchen/diner equipped with everything you need for a home-from-home stay, including a gas hob with electric oven, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, slimline dishwasher and washing machine. An archway leads to the bright and airy dining area with farmhouse-style dining table seating up to six guests and French doors leading to the garden. After supper, relax in the comfortable living room with natural light from the bay window. Relax in the cosy sofas for an evening watching TV or pop a film in the DVD player. Keep warm during cooler months with the gas fire in its feature fireplace. When it’s time for bed, steep cottage stairs lead to the first floor where you will find a pretty double bedroom with ample storage for your belongings. On this floor is the family bathroom with bath with a wall mounted shower attachment. Continue up a further flight of cottage stairs to the second floor where a cosy family room has three single beds nestled into the eaves, along with built-in wardrobes.

Through the French doors from the dining room, dine alfresco in the enclosed patio garden with a BBQ and garden furniture. On-road parking is available and there are nearby public car parks.

Location great, house lovely, if you struggle with steps this isn't for you, steep due to the age of the house. Even though there isnt any parking with the house, it wasnt difficult to find a space.

Very basic cottage and not worth the 746 we paid. An upgrade is needed (particularly the bathroom). The stairs were steep - please do not underestimate this they are very steep! There was no welcome pack which whilst not required was a tad disappointing when most other cottages provided at least tea, coffee and milk for a couple of days. There is nRead moreo hairdryer at this property as well as no full length mirror and no clocks! The location however was ideal for exploring Hay-on-Wye. Hide

Perfect location for exploring Hay and the river Wye. Only five minutes into town, even closer for walking along the river. Nice Pubs with good food in close range. The house has the charm of victorian times with extension, so there is enough space for a family of four. The staircases are quite steep and not very comfortable for tall people. We enjoyed a lovely stay in this well located cottage. It is close to all of Hay's amenities plus you can get away from the bustle quickly along the river path. Thank you for a great stay.

Ideal central location. Great for a relaxing family holiday close to many superb book shops, country walks and cafes. Light and airy house which was well equipped. Soon got used to the steep stairs! WiFi signal throughout the property. Comfy beds. Towels on the small side.

WOW, what a disappointment. Opened the door past checkin time to what my wife described as a Uni Flat, with the uncleanlinesses to match. Spent considerable time in cleaning the kitchen, complete with removing old food from the lone, cracked small cutting board and the absolutely disgusting bathtub. Everything seems to be done at a minimum here andRead more the recommendations offered in the Guest Log, going back to 2015, show little has been addressed.
