Property description
Cerro de los Higos (Hill of the Figs) is an idyllic retreat collection of three cottages in the Andalucian mountains. Within the five acres of grounds, this is an idyllic retreat, with its own vineyard, a serve-yourself tapas bar and a shared infinity pool. The cottages are set two kilometres down a country track, off the main road leading from Estepona to the ancient white village of Casares. They feel blissfully rural, yet are half an hour from the shops and nightlife of Marbella.
The three cottages are Los Olivos (The Olives), Las Uvas (The Grapes) and Los Almendros (The Almonds). Las Uvas and Los Olivos each sleep two; Los Almendros sleeps four. The first two each have a bedroom for two, a sitting area, a mini bar fridge and a bathroom. The terrace at Las Uvas has particular wow factor, being huge and very private.
Breakfasts are included at Cerro de los Higos - either fresh orange juice, tea, coffee, croissants, bread, fruit, cereal and yogurt; or a more traditional feast of Spanish roast ham, cheese, bread, olive oil and fresh tomato sauce.

15 minutes from Estepona, five minutes from Casares and ten minutes from the beach. A car is essential whilst staying here.

Accommodation
Los Olivos is a delightful cottage with a seagreen accent wall behind the bed, primrose-coloured shuttered windows and original oils on the walls. It has a seating area, a minibar fridge, a double bedroom and a bathroom. A candlelit fireplace in the corner adds to its romantic charm. The bathroom is newly installed with a shower, loo and basin set in pale marble. The covered terrace is a suntrap and is only steps from the pool.
Las Uvas is a larger double cottage, down some steps from the pool. It has polished terracotta-tiled floors, a super-king sized double bed against a Merlot red accent wall, comfy chairs, a large walk-in wardrobe and a brand new bathroom with a glass shower, modern basin and loo. French doors lead onto a balcony with splendid views over the vineyard to the mountains and down the valley to the sea. A stone path takes you down to an enormous pantiled terrace – glorious during the day and ideal for a bottle of champagne in the evening.
The third cottage, Los Almendros, has two bedrooms: a double and a twin/zip and link room.
Facilities
Each cottage has a mini bar fridge, kettle, and tea and coffee facilities.
The tapas and drinks bar is unstaffed and operates on an honour system; cottage guests can use it at any time, night or day.
Dinners can be arranged or guests can eat out locally. There are five excellent restaurants within ten minutes, ranging from cheap to gastronomic.
Each cottage has a DVD player and Cerro de los Higos has a library of over 200 films.
All linen, house and pool towels are provided, and a laundry service is available if required. You can also book a massage by the pool, or an olive oil and sea salt body scrub.
A concierge service is offered, so if you would like bullfighting tickets, for example, concert tickets, horse riding or golfing days booked, just let the owners know.
Malaga, Andalucia and the surrounding area
The wide, sandy beach of Estepona is only ten minutes away, and has a wonderful beach restaurant, ‘La Sal’, serving fresh fish. Further afield it is half an hour to the chic beach life at Marbella.
The white village of Casares is well worth a visit. It played an important part in Andalusia during the Civil War. There are lots of little bars and restaurants, the atmosphere is intrinsically Spanish and there is ample parking. The beautiful town of Ronda is an hour away.
This is also a wonderful area for walks and birdwatching, and it’s not unusual to see at least a dozen eagles fly over the house during the course of one day.
A big fruit, veg and clothes market is held in Estepona every Wednesday, and a crafts and clothes market in the town’s port on a Sunday morning. There’s also a Sunday flea market in Sabanillas (10 mins).
Various golf courses in the area include Finca Cortesin (10 mins), home of the Volvo Match Play 2009.
