Lilac Cottage is a delightful, self-catering barn conversion for two. It enjoys a peaceful, rural location on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border, surrounded by woodland, with walks, scenery and various places to visit nearby.
Lilac Cottage is one of two Woodland Views Holiday Cottages (the other, Beech Cottage, sleeps four). It is decorated in calm, neutral colours, with all mod cons, and has a double bedroom and a shower room upstairs, and an open plan kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor. There are extensive lawns, barbecue facilities, and stabling available for any guests who wish to bring their own horse.
Location
A peaceful, countryside location just outside the village of Marchington Woodlands, three miles from the market town of Uttoxeter. The cottage stands on a very quiet lane, close to Beech Cottage and the owners’ house. Its garden feels perfectly secluded from the other two properties. A car is very useful here, although there are taxi services available.
There is a grocery shop in Uttoxeter, and a big Tesco supermarket in Uttoxeter. All the local market towns hold regular farmers’ markets. The owners can advise on locally-sourced produce and can place orders ready for you to collect or have delivered when you arrive. Within 15 minutes there are various pubs serving good meals.

Accommodation
The open plan kitchen and sitting room forms the hub of the cottage, and the character of the old barn remains, as existing rafter beams have been left exposed. The kitchen has Canadian maple units, and is well-equipped with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, oven and hob, fridge/freezer and microwave. The sitting room is cosily furnished with an electric log-burner-style stove, a soft sofa and various lamps.
The bedroom upstairs is light and airy, with pine furniture.
Facilities
These include a TV with video and DVD players, and a music centre. A selection of films, books and games is provided, with more available if requested.
The house has oil-fired central heating throughout. Regrettably, no pets or smoking are allowed inside.
There is ample parking available.
Uttoxeter, Staffordshire and the surrounding area
Twenty minutes from the house you can be in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, with fabulous walks to choose from.
There are various sports facilities in the area, too, including golf courses and leisure centres, and the Uttoxeter Racecourse for those who prefer spectator sport. Uttoxeter also has a cinema and bowling alley.
Other interesting local places to visit include Sudbury Hall, Shugborough Hall (ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield) and Tutbury (famous for its magnificent castle and synonymous with cut glass crystal). Alton Towers is always a popular day out. Further afield, you can visit a wide range of factory shops in the Stoke-on-Trent Potteries area, Chatsworth House, Shakespeare country, Robin Hood country, The Museum of Brewing (home of Shire dray horses), Trentham Gardens, Monkey Forest and Twycross Zoo, as well as some excellent pubs and restaurants.
