Sheldon Manor Cottages Cottage location
Chippenham, Wiltshire, England
Number of guests
Sleeps up to 2
Property description
Three romantic, one-bedroom cottages and a studio, within the grounds of Sheldon Manor, near Chippenham in Wiltshire. The Manor itself is the oldest inhabited manor house in Wiltshire, and dates back to 1282. The estate stands on the site of a medieval hamlet, with a fully documented history dating back to 1282 – little wonder it has provided the backdrop for various film and TV costume dramas.
The cottages are gorgeous, with beamed, king size bedrooms, country kitchens and open fires. Outside the door are old English rose gardens which bloom from mid May to mid July. They are all quite separate from the Manor and have their own, independent entrances.
Self-catering or top local caterers by separate pre-booked arrangement.
Location
A completely rural location, surrounded by working farms, between three of the most beautiful villages in England - Biddestone, Castle Combe and Lacock. 1.5 miles west of Chippenham off the A420, and four miles from the M4. Close to Bath and the Cotswolds.
The nearest shop is the award-winning Allington Farm Shop (www.allingtonfarmshop.co.uk), just a short walk, drive or cycle ride away. The shop provides all groceries and will also supply hampers or freezer food if required.
It is less than two hours' drive from London to Sheldon Manor, or one hour fifteen minutes from London Paddington.
Nearest airport: Bristol (1 hr)
Nearest station: Chippenham (3 miles)
Accommodation
The cottages and studio are newly refurbished in country house chic style, furnished throughout with antiques and old oriental rugs. The kitchens have butler sinks, solid wood work tops and the essential mod cons, the bedrooms have open fires, sometimes four posters, and there are large, en suite bathrooms.
These properties are unlike most other cottages in that the rooms are much larger proportioned, with high ceilings.

Horse-riding by arrangement
An outdoor pool is available for guests in the manor house and the cottages to use. It has a Peter Greenaway mood to it, being a large, turquoise rectangle fringed with lawn and statuary.
Chippenham, Wiltshire and the surrounding area
The gardens at Sheldon are old and romantic, with many trees and plants of interest to keen gardeners. There are numerous old roses blooming in great profusion from late May through June and July. A programme of restoration is ongoing and there's a long tradition of Shakespeare and Opera events held here.
