La Scalita Cottage location
Skala, Kephalonia, Greece
Number of guests
Sleeps up to 2
Property description
A romantic stone cottage, oozing charisma and style, and getting a lot of attention from lovers of Kefalonia! This delightful self-catering villa is situated up in Old Skala, which has been built upon the ruins of the original village on the south-eastern tip of the island. La Scalita is one of a collection of private villas with pools on a hillside here, all set quietly and independently of each other amongst scented pine and olive groves. All the houses have been built with painstaking attention to detail and design, ensuring they reflect the history of the village and the environment.
The house is a cosy stone cottage in a wonderfully private setting, with stunning sea views. What makes it unusual is that it offers all the space and comfort of a larger villa, for the exclusive use of just two people. It is close to three fantastic beaches, Skala, Kaminia and Katelios, and there are plenty of opportunities very close by for walking, horse riding, diving and boating. Probably the best thing about the house is the pool terrace, shaded in parts, where you can sit over a glass of chilled Greek wine in the early evening and look out to sea towards Zakynthos. Home seems a long way away!
Location
On a hillside, five minutes from the village of Skala (2kms) which has supermarkets, restaurants and an internet cafe. There is a taverna with WiFi in Old Skala (3kms). Very close to a variety of gorgeous beaches and the bluest and clearest of sea for swimming.
Car hire is essential here.
Airport: Kefalonia (36kms)
Accommodation
La Scalita is imaginatively designed to take full advantage of the magnificent views, whilst remaining private from its neighbours. There’s lots of use of natural materials - wood and stone etc – and fashionable muted colours making it all very tranquil. Light floods into the open plan living/dining/kitchen area. Upstairs, the double bedroom has an iron bedstead, neutral colours, a vaulted wooden ceiling, an ensuite shower and wonderful views. Doors lead from the bedroom to a terrace which makes a great location for breakfast.

Skala, Kephalonia and the surrounding area
There’s plenty to do out and about in Kefalonia, especially in the way of sports. The best beaches close to home include Skala (2 kms), Kaminia (5.5kms) and Katelios (9kms).
Besides walking along island trails, you can book horse riding whenever you like in Koulourata near Sami, and the stables offer guided day hacks. Mountain bikes can be hired in Skala, and there’s a good selection of watersports and diving available here. There is a tennis court in Old Skala. Boat hire is offered at Katelios; if you’d rather go on an excursion boat there are hourly trips from Skala to Mounda bay and to the Perseus submarine wreck. There are day trips from Argostoli to Lixouri peninsula, and others to the Greek island of Zakynthos.
Sights to visit on Kefalonia include Assos Castle (1593), the Drongarati Caves near Sami which have an impressive series of stalagmites and stalactites, and great food markets in Argostoli where fresh fish is sold straight from the boat.
