Property description
You could not find anywhere nearer the sea than this tiny self-catering cottage, almost on the clifftop in the heart of Cadgwith on The Lizard peninsula. The cottage was built on the solid granite of ‘The Todden’ which juts out into the sea, dividing the cove into two beaches. From here, you can look down on the waves crashing onto the rocks or watch the fishing boats sailing in on the summer tides. All this can be enjoyed equally from the patio, or from inside where the dining area has been placed specially by the window. These views are simply priceless.
Location
A pebble’s throw from the water, at the edge of Cadgwith village. Pub 100 yards. Shop 1.5 miles. Public telephone 20 yards.
Accommodation
The origins of this cottage are unclear, but it has been re-thatched and modernised to include a separate bathroom and tiny kitchenette. A steep spiral staircase (regrettably not suitable for the elderly) winds up to the small galleried bedroom which has twin beds and a sloping ceiling – be warned if you are very tall or suffer from vertigo!
The living area has a comfortable blue sofa, wooden beams, a cosy carpet and hand-made furniture. Floral curtains frame the bow window, and pictures and prints of local scenes put the finishing touches to this little dream cottage.
Facilities
The open-plan sitting/dining room has a digital TV, DVD player, CD and tape player. The kitchenette has an electric cooker, microwave and fridge. In the bathroom there’s a corner bath, a fitted shower, WC and wash basin.
Electricity and heating are included. You will be given a season ticket for the car park, 400 yards away.
Non-smokers only. Sorry no pets.
Helston, Cornwall and the surrounding area
A public footpath runs alongside the cottage and patio to The Todden, which is a popular spot with locals and holidaymakers alike.
Behind this cottage you’ll see ‘The Wee Todden’, a tiny stone building forming a pied-a-terre which is occasionally used by the owner.
Cadgith itself is a delightful little village of thatched cottages and steep, narrow little lanes, all leading in one way or another to the sea.
