Property description

Imagine coming home from an invigorating walk to a blazing log fire, a relaxing spa treatment and perhaps a gourmet dinner, cooked by your own personal chef.
It may sound a dream, but these are just some of the special touches on offer at the Candle Cottage in the Peak District.

Romantic by name, and romantic by nature, Candle Cottage is a multi-award winning, five star 'Gold' graded cottage, situated amidst some of Britain's most scenic walking country. “Attention to detail is our motto, and nothing is too much trouble,” says owner Steve Ogan, who can organise everything from champagne and flowers to a candlelit meal for two. “Sleeping two doesn't make a property romantic. That comes from the decor, the lighting, the ambience ... We aim to offer all the thoughtful extras that guests would expect in a five-star hotel.”

And Candle Cottage oozes romance, with its high vaulted ceiling, crystal chandelier, original beams and sumptuous décor. The open plan living room has an exposed limestone wall housing a magnificent fireplace and log burning stove. French doors lead onto a private terrace. Also on this floor are a well-equipped kitchen and a fine bathroom. Stairs lead to an enchanting galleried bedroom, complete with antique furniture and king-size bed. The colour scheme is a rich gold and cream from Farrow & Ball, with splashes of warm reds from the bespoke furniture.

Beyond the door are the paddocks and gardens of the farm, spacious enough to make Candle Cottage feel cosy and private.

Winster, Derbyshire and the surrounding area

Chatsworth House, family home of the 12th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, is a wonderful stately home with amazing gardens, estate and farm. Like Haddon Hall with its stunning furnishings and gardens, it makes a wonderful day out. Carsington Water is another favourite location attraction, a 7.8 billion gallon reservoir that has a visitor centre, an exhibition, a book and gift shop and a café/restaurant. There are also miles of footpaths, places to hire bikes and various watersports on offer locally.

The historic market town of Bakewell is worth a visit for its famous Bakewell pudding shop and quaint little streets. You can also potter along the beautiful river Wye.
