Property description
The perfect holiday base for a break in the Peak District, Bonsall Cottage is tucked away in a fine courtyard of old stone barns. Formerly part of a working farm, it has been sensitively converted into a sweet holiday cottage. Although contemporary in terms of equipment, there are still plenty of original features, giving the cottage a sense of age and character. The huge plus about Bonsall is that although you are utterly private within the house, you can also dip into the shared leisure facilities, which include a 34-foot indoor heated swimming pool and a sauna, all free of charge. Above the swimming pool is the newly opened 'Brackendale Spa', offering luxurious treatments.
The cottage is set out over the ground floor, with a double bedroom and an open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. The kitchen has everything you need to self-cater, nevertheless there’s also a restaurant serving home-cooked food on site.
Location
The cottage is part of Knockerdown Farm, and is set in three acres of shared grounds. The farm (non-working) stands between the charming market towns of Ashbourne and Matlock, in a rural location close to Carsington Water and Carsington Village, in the heart of the Peak District. The Knockerdown Inn is next door, serving real ale and meals/bar snacks.
Accommodation
The lounge diner has comfortable seating with a TV and video player. The double bedroom is decorated in country style, with an ensuite bathroom.
Other facilities include access to a patio and barbecue area, and the restaurant at Knockerdown Farm which is very tempting if you’re here for a break from household chores. It serves delicious home-cooked food, to eat in or take out, all at reasonable prices.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, microwave etc.
The pool has changing rooms and a sauna. Before you come you may also like to book a treatment or two at the Brackendale Spa. It specialises in holistic treatments, using organic products.
Other facilities included a separate games room, a shared laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, all linen and electricity, and wireless internet access (from the central area/games room or in reception).

Nr Ashbourne, Peak District and the surrounding area
The three acres of farmland are yours to roam freely, and there’s plenty of space for a picnic or two. Beyond lie the Derbyshire Dales in all their glory, an ideal spot for exploring the attractions of the Peak District national park. The cottage is close to gorgeous scenery and unspoilt countryside with free access for walking, cycling and riding.
Things to do include Alton Towers, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Fishing and caving are popular around here, and the house is only five minutes’ walk from Carsington Water where there’s a superb windsurfing and sailing centre. Fishing and cycle hire are also available here, and the visitor centre has a restaurant overlooking the lake.
