Property description
Have a memorable holiday, just the two of you, in the southern Turkish sunshine. The Ottoman Suite is a modern, one-bedroomed, self-catering suite in the exclusive Patara Prince Resort in Kalkan. It’s big, light and airy, and comes with a private terrace shaded by an olive tree overlooking the Med. At the end of every day you can watch the fishermen returning with the day’s catch. And if you don’t feel like cooking one night, you can taste that same fish at one of many restaurants lining Kalkan harbour.
Staying at the Ottoman Suite, you have exclusive access to the facilities of the Patara Prince Resort which include three swimming pools (one for adults only). However, the swimming in the sea here is fantastic - the waters are crystal clear and fly a Blue Flag. The resort has its own strip of shoreline with secluded bathing platforms built into the rocks where you can plunge straight in and cool off! There’s lots to do here, not only around the resort but taking dolmus taxis or speedboats across to other beaches, enjoying Turkish baths and massages, shopping in Kalkan and Kas and generally enjoying a fantastically unspoilt, boaty part of the Med.
Location
The apartment is next to the Patara Prince Hotel, so close to all the resort’s amenities. It is a 10-minute walk down to Kalkan. The nearest supermarket is within the resort complex.
Accommodation
The suite is cool and airy, all limestone colours with soft muslin drapes at the windows and around the bed. An arch from the living area opens into the sleeping gallery which has a double bedroom, a separate dressing room and a shower room. The kitchen is not huge but has everything you’ll need for self-catering. The whole place is air-conditioned, a blessing during Turkey’s hot summers. If you visit during the winter, however, you can relax in front of an open fire.
Facilities
These include a washing machine, dishwasher, hob, fridge, various books, a CD player, a hairdryer and a set of backgammon.
The sunny dressing room has a built-in wardrobe and a dressing table.
Two floodlit tennis courts are located within the resort and there are Turkish baths and massages available in the hotel.
Please note that owing to the landscaping of the resort it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Patara Prince Resort, Kalkan and the surrounding area
Behind the apartment rises a commanding mountain range, whilst in front lies the bay of Kalkan.
Kalkan itself is a beautiful, quaint town of whitewashed houses draped in brightly-coloured bougainvilleas, its narrow cobbled streets leading down to the marina. The town has a man-made shingle beach where you can hire sun beds and parasols, all close to the marina restaurants. There’s also a choice of great beaches in the area. Kaputus is very close, on the road towards Kas (you can catch a dolmus taxi, or a bus, for next to nothing). This has a sandy/shingle beach and wonderful turquoise water.
Various speedboat charters are available from Patara Prince to take you to all the beaches and coves in the area. Other activities include jet-skiing and diving (there is a dive centre in Kalkan).
Patara beach is 15 minutes away, a 12-mile stretch of sand backed by dunes. It’s officially an area of outstanding natural beauty and is protected as a place where loggerhead turtles come to lay their eggs. You will have to pay a small charge to access it, and will find a small cafe on site.
If you walk five minutes up the track away from the beach you’ll come to an amazing amphitheatre. You can climb the steps to the top and view mountains, meadows, villages and sea, hearing nothing but goats’ bells and birdsong.
