Property description
A delightful, period cottage, situated on the edge of the sleepy village of Goathurst in Somerset. Constructed in the last year of King William IV’s reign in 1836, and built to serve as the entrance lodge to Halswell Park, the thatched dwelling was finished in the then fashionable “Cottage Ornee” style.
The Lodge is a perfect, self-catering location for a romantic get-away-from-it-all break, where two of you can thoroughly unwind and re-charge. It’s furnished in taste and style, with all mod cons, and a hot tub. There’s a sizeable private garden enclosed by a yew and box hedge, where you can barbecue and sunbathe. Serious gardeners will appreciate the colour surrounding the cottage for much of the year. It ranges from white roses cascading around walls and railings together with pink and cream floribundas flowering profusely close to the parlour and kitchen windows, to lupins, foxgloves and cornflowers in the corner. The birdsong, night and day, is a joy.
