Holiday ideas for couples

Dan 27 January 2017

At the Little Domain we have gathered our favourite tried and tested holiday ideas for couples. From the gorgeously romantic and the perfectly traditional, to quirky and unusual ideas, we hope that any couple will find a holiday that suits them with our collection of ideas.

We have over 500 romantic cottages across the UK that make a perfect base for couples' holidays, and many of our cottages are dog friendly, so kennels needn't be a worry. We also have a fantastic collection of baby and child friendly cottages, because parents deserve special holidays just as much, perhaps more, than any other couple!

We have chosen some of our favourite holiday ideas for couples that are easily accessible from our romantic cottages. So snuggle up, have a read, and plan your next romantic holiday.

Go hiking

Head to Somerset, where you'll discover miles of rolling countryside and pretty meadows to explore, as well as deep caves, caverns and ancient ice age gorges. The National Trust owns parts of Cheddar Gorge and there are walkways and picnic areas to allow you to make the most of your visit to this stunning landmark.

Go wine tasting in the Cotswolds

Throughout the year there are always plenty of wine tasting events happening around the Cotswolds, from planned events and festivals, to private tasting organised at local wine bars and pubs - there'll always be something to whet your appetite.

Dolphin spotting in Wales

If you are staying in Wales, plan a boat trip and go dolphin spotting on Cardigan Bay. The trips are exciting and unique, and you will be almost guaranteed to see a beautiful dolphin or playful seal, and plenty of majestic seabirds dipping in and out of the water. The purpose built vessels ride over the waves, giving you chances to hold tight.

Sample local delicacies

Be a foodie in Cornwall in one of the county's renowned gastro-enterprising towns. Head to Padstow where famous chefs Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth have restaurants, or the lively seaside town of Newquay where you will find Jamie Oliver's Fifteen.

Pack a picnic

Make some sandwiches, find a nice checked blanket, and get back to nature. You'll find miles of golden sandy beaches in Devon, where you can snuggle on the sand with a selection of goodies, or find a secluded spot on the beautiful heather topped moorland of Devon's two National Parks, Exmoor and Dartmoor, to enjoy the contents of your luxury hamper as well as the stunning views.

Light the fire

Stay in for the evening and snuggle up in front of the log fire. We have a wonderful collection of romantic cottages with log fires. Even in the summer it's such a treat to light the fire once it gets dark, and when the weather turns colder, the warming glow of a roaring log fire soothes you and sets the tone for romance.

Go fossil hunting

Dorset is home to the stunning Jurassic coastline, which is a hotbed of opportunity for discovering fossils. The plethora of shingle beaches that line the coast are full of ammonites and petrified leaves and plants to find and keep as a holiday memento. A quirky but memorable way to spend some time together on your getaway.
