Lying in its own pretty glen in the Border's Tweed Valley is Glen Estate, encompassing 5000 acres of privately owned moorland, parklands, hills, lochs, enchanting gardens and the Scots Baronial marvel, Glen House. Enjoy a stay in one of its wings, at this classically beautiful property. Explore sweeping landscapes and extensive grounds, fish for trout in the nearby lochs (season permitting) or take in the rich history of Glen House, dating back to the 1850s. Further afield, Innerleithen (4 miles away) offers a range of shops and restaurants and is a popular mountain biking spot, with access to both downhill and cross country trails. There is also a 9-hole golf course for those who'd prefer a gentler afternoon.

The impressive stone façade greets you as you arrive via the property's own entrance. Once inside, you're welcomed by classically stylish décor, original features, and homespun elegance. Antiques from the Glen House collection adorn each room, and original stone flagged floors run throughout the ground floor giving a nod to the building's past. In the kitchen, cook up a treat beneath the vaulted brick ceiling while a loved one keeps you company at the breakfast bar. The open-plan lounge/dining room is a well-lit space brimming with countryside charm, the perfect place to enjoy a meal in the flickering glow of the wood burner. Throw open the French doors in warmer months for a summer breeze as you get lost in a favourite book, or head upstairs for a soak in the clawfoot tub - an en-suite to the cosy twin room on the first floor, while across the landing, the double bedroom boasts a four-poster bed alongside an en-suite shower room. There's also a separate WC on the ground floor.

Whether you're dining alfresco as night falls or laying out a lunchtime spread in the sunshine, the cobbled courtyard through the French doors is a great spot for the family to gather. If you're feeling more adventurous, pack up a picnic and head out on a walk through the grounds and gardens of the Estate (shared with other visitors). You could even try your hand at trout fishing in one of the on-site lochs (season permitting), or make use of the shared fitness centre at Glen House – both activities are available by arrangement with the Estate.
