Stoke on Tern is a sleepy hamlet in Shropshire, close to Market Drayton which is well-known for its market, shops and eateries, not forgetting the scenic Shropshire Union Canal. Activities in the area include walking, cycling, boating and fishing. Visit Hawkstone Park Follies (8 miles), The Dorothy Clive Garden (15 miles), Bridgemere Garden World (16 miles), Ironbridge museums (20 miles), National Trust’s Attingham Park (17.5 miles) and Benthall Hall (23 miles). Explore the vibrant towns nearby including historic Nantwich (20 miles), medieval Shrewsbury (16.5 miles), Stafford and its pottery (21.5 miles) and the University town of Stoke-On-Trent (23.5 miles). They all offer a range of events, independent shops, eateries, museums, galleries and attractions. It’s the perfect base from which the culture, cuisine and countryside in Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire or simply relax in the retreat.

Step into this converted former cheese house and you’ll notice beams, high ceilings and interesting and quirky features throughout. The stylish kitchen has been designed with thoughtful little extras, creating a lovely space to rustle up a meal with views over the garden and beyond. The kitchen is well equipped with electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The dining table is perfectly positioned in the kitchen to enjoy a meal together. Continue through to the lounge with exposed beams, feature fireplace with electric effect log burner, and a Smart TV. Relax on the sofa, plan your activities for your stay, choose something to read from the bookcase or watch a film with the glow of the fire for cosy nights in. After a full day out head upstairs to the bedroom with a double bed, and en suite with a shower and WC.
Heading outside, you can fire up the BBQ on fine days and enjoy al fresco dining at the table and chairs in the garden. Embrace the rural views from sunrise to sunset or walk down to the River Tern for seasonal walks. There is a lockable store if you are bringing your bikes and private parking for two cars at the property. This is a working farm with the owners on-site, though privacy is assured at all times.

A great cottage on a working farm with friendly cows. Lovely welcome pack and festive feel for Xmas break, owners made us feel very much at home. Well equipped and we really didn't want for anything. Isolated so phone signal/ wi-fi touch and go. Good walks along the Tern valley from the door if you're a keen walker. Woodhouse Retreat provides excellent accommodation. It is clean, well equipped and very comfortable. We found it a superb base from which to explore the local area which has much to offer.

The cottage was so cosy and comfortable and in such a lovely, peaceful location. It was lovely to be away from the hustle & bustle and just hear birds and cows. A lovely cottage in a peaceful countryside location. Spacious and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Good location for exploring Shropshire and it's many attractions. We would be happy to stay there again.

Can't fault the cottage it was of a very good standard with parking just outside the door.A lovely clean cottage with everything to help make it a great holiday. Lovely welcome pack of goodies, milk, biscuits, tea, coffee all you need on arival.

We had a fantastic stay and returned well rested and chilled out. Cottage had everything we required and even more. Everything highest of quality and perfect for us. Hosts were wonderful. We highly recommend this cottage. We had a warm welcome from our hosts. The cottage exceeded our expectations, very clean and so well equipped. A generous welcome pack and jug of garden flowers was provided. The bonus was the view from the terrace and kitchen of cows and calves in the fields. So many places to visit, Attingham Park, Shrewsbury, VicRead moretoria Park, Shropshire Union Canal walk, Hodnet Hall and Garden, Iron Bridge Gorge and Museums, Powis Castle and Garden, Wollerton Old Hall and more. This is a lovely cottage we felt at home as soon as we got there. The view from the kitchen window is super and a lovely welcome from Janice. A beautiful vase of her garden flowers and other treats were lovely too. We loved watching the calves from the balcony chasing each other and would have spent more time if the weather had been warmer. The areRead morea has so much to offer, Hawkestone Follies is great a walk on the Wrekin and a visit to beautiful Wollerton gardens. We would love to return. Hide

The hosts were very welcoming and responsive. The accommodation was very well maintained and equipped with everything we needed, and it was in a good location for trips out to close-by attractions, towns and cities, with beautiful, unobstructed views over the fields
