Discover a romantic Peak District retreat with a huge array of pubs, cafes, cocktail bars, ice cream parlours, and independent shops situated close by. Nestled at the foot of the Derwent Valley in Derbyshire, Matlock Bath is a unique village that lies on the south-eastern edge of the Peak District National Park. A popular tourist attraction since the 17th century, this beautiful village has earned nicknames such as ‘the seaside resort miles from the sea’ and ‘Little Switzerland’. There’s a long street of shops, cafes, and places of interest like the aquarium. Riverside walks are ideal for a shady stroll. Within an easy drive are the splendid Chatsworth House (8.5 miles), Haddon Hall (7.5 miles), and Crich Tramway Village (5.5 miles). You can also take advantage of the excellent walking routes around the Derwent Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Take the external steps down from the parking area to the cottage entrance, store coats and boots in the porch and wander through to the traditional country cottage kitchen with characterful exposed beams. Get cosy in the lounge with comfortable seating and a warming gas fire the perfect place to curl up with good company after a day hiking the hills. Head up the steep steps to the first floor where you will find a double bedroom with views over the garden and mature trees and nearby bathroom offering the choice of a bath or shower.

Outside the cottage is surrounded by a mature garden where guests have access to raised patio with seating to make the most of the wonderful views.

This is a gem of a place to stay. Well equipped (there is even a proper coffee machine, although no dishwasher) and very comfortable with excellent furnishing, on a quiet and notably narrow little road overlooking much of Matlock Bath. Beautiful walks nearby, and plenty to see and do. We recommend The Family Tree in Whatstandwell to eat out, and thRead moree walk along the Cromford Canal. Hide

A sweet character cottage nestled in a hilltop location. Lovely tree top views. Access by car a must as walking into town is a bit of a work out.
