Escape to this beautiful holiday home set in one of North Yorkshire’s prettiest towns, Helmsley, in the North York Moors National Park. Voted one of the best places to live in the UK in a Sunday Times survey, picture-postcard Helmsley offers a real escape from the stresses and strains of modern life. As well as its inherent good looks, charming sandstone buildings and country charm, Helmsley is tiny yet packed with things to do. In addition to the exquisite tea rooms, cafés and delis in town, you’ll also find some of the best restaurants and gastropubs in the UK, and lots of independent shops, upmarket stores, galleries and antique dealers. The Duncombe Park Estate is set on the edge of town and its parkland and gardens are open to visitors for much of the year. It’s a lovely spot for walking, particularly along the river towards Rievaulx Abbey (3 miles from town). Helmsley is also close to York, Castle Howard and the Yorkshire coast, so lots of choices for day trips, all within a 30-mile drive.

This enchanting property has been designed to offer the perfect staycation for families, couples and dog owners. Step inside to find a generous entrance hall with traditional parquet flooring and wood-panelled walls, leading to a cosy lounge and stunning open-plan kitchen/diner. The lounge area is the perfect place to relax in the evening with its open fire, Smart TV, hardwood floors and a lovely mix of antique/contemporary furniture. Next door is the kitchen/diner – a bright, contemporary space with its handmade solid wood kitchen, island with breakfast bar stools and comfy banquette seating. Extras include a boiling water tap, Smart TV, Sonos speaker and record player. The utility cupboard also has a washing machine. The kitchen leads to a fabulous Scandi-style cinema room complete with Smart TV, surround sound and Nintendo Switch. A plush sofa seats a family of four, with a deep window seat offering views of the garden. A downstairs shower room with a walk-in shower sits next door, complete with a tumble dryer. Upstairs, both en-suite bedrooms are accessed via a spacious landing. The master bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed and lots of storage. The master en-suite is a calm, peaceful space with wood-panelled walls and a walk-in shower. The rear bedroom is a cosy twin with wrap-around wood panelling. A comfortable day bed sits in the window, offering views across to Helmsley Castle, the perfect spot for relaxing with a good book. The contemporary en-suite bathroom features a shower over the bath, ideal for those with young children.

The fully enclosed rear garden of this house is the star of the show. Accessed via large sliding doors from the kitchen, the beautiful, south-facing garden is complete with designer touches. The large decking area by the house has comfortable lounge seating making the most of the sun. A Belgium clay-paved path leads you to the rear decking spa area with a Swedish outdoor sauna and additional bath house with its Japanese-style Ofuro hot tub. A paved patio also provides a dining area with a table and chairs.

Wonderful time spent at the Velveteen Bath House. It is immaculate and beautifully designed with everything you need. The street is quiet, pleasant and only a few minutes from the market square, shops and restaurants. Tub and sauna were private and a real bonus for relaxing. Welcome hamper of high quality was a lovely treat. Thankyou Phil and ChrisRead moretina, hope to see you again x Hide
