A charming renovated historic townhouse dating back to the 1880’s situated in the pretty village of Beauly, a perfect base for exploring the Highlands with the Capital of Inverness only 15 miles away.

Set next to the ruins of Beauly Priory, for Outlander fans there’s the Clan Fraser of Lovat connection as Outlander hero Jamie Fraser descends from. The author took many of the character names from gravestones within the grounds. The name Beauly comes from the French “beau lieu” or “beautiful place” a comment made by Mary Queen of Scots visit in 1564. The bustling village square, offers varied shops and eating places. Enjoy a round of golf on one of the nearby golf courses, or a spot of fishing on the River Beauly, fishing permits can be purchased from the local ironmongers. A visit to the famous Loch Ness, exhibition centre and Glen Urquhart Castle is a must.

You are welcomed into the delightful accommodation and to the left you will find the spacious open-plan lounge/diner. This stylish space has a colourful dining area to sit and enjoy an evening meal and a comfortable lounge area making it an ideal spot to relax in front of the TV or watch a film on the DVD. Leading from the dining area into the kitchen with views to the Old Priory, the well-equipped kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and DeLonghi coffee machine. There is also a door leading out to a small decking area where you can enjoy your morning coffee. Heading back to the hallway the staircase will take you to the first floor, you will find the tastefully decorated master king-size bedroom with TV and side views to the Old Priory and the bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Continuing up the next set of stairs to the second floor is the double bedroom with TV (there is some restricted head height due to sloping ceilings).

From the kitchen there is a small fenced patio. Heading outside to the side of the property you will find a small garden area with views looking onto the picturesque Old Priory and its huge ancient sycamore and elm trees. There is ample off-road parking within the residents parking area in front of the property.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Beautiful Beauly is known for its scenic setting and numerous walks around and from the village. Take a circular 5.5-mile walk on the heights above Beauly and look down upon the peaceful stretch of water of Loch nam Bonnach. Explore the ruins of Beauly Priory, once a church of a little-known order of monks and now with links to the Outlander book and TV series. Go fishing in the River Beauly, said to be one of the best Scottish salmon rivers.

Otherwise, drive just over 13.5 miles to the city of Inverness to browse in the Victorian Market and other shopping areas; make sure you visit the castle and St Andrew's Cathedral, while you are here. Venture some 12 miles to Drumnadrochit by Loch Ness where you can spend time at the famous Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition or buy a ticket to head out on to the water yourself to see if you can spot anything mysterious. Stop at Nessieland to explore its caves and visit the adventure playground. Striking Urquhart Castle, almost 17 miles from your base, is also close by and is well worth a trip. These beautiful ruins sit on a rocky promontory, overlooking out over the loch and embodying centuries of history. Head up to the battlements and pause to gaze down into the prison area.

We had a terrific time at the cottage. It is ideally situated to travel throughout the Highlands with immediate access to A road routes. The cottage also sat within a minutes walk of good bars, restaurants, delicatessen, supermarket, butcher, baker, gift shops and general stores and only a few miles from a distillery! A great location. The cottage Read moreitself was perfect, providing all the facilities you would need. Help was always available and friendly from Elizabeth, the key holder next door. Hide

We really enjoyed our short break in 1 Priory Cottages. The cottage was very clean, very comfortable and everything was of a very high quality, the kitchen especially, was very well appointed.
