Take a circular 5.5-mile walk on the heights above Beauly and look down upon the peaceful stretch of water of Loch nam Bonnach. Explore the ruins of Beauly Priory, once a church of a little-known order of monks and now with links to the Outlander book and TV series. Go fishing in the River Beauly, said to be one of the best Scottish salmon rivers.

Otherwise, drive just over 13.5 miles to the city of Inverness to browse in the Victorian Market and other shopping areas; make sure you visit the castle and St Andrew's Cathedral, while you are here. Venture some 12 miles to Drumnadrochit by Loch Ness where you can spend time at the famous Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition or buy a ticket to head out on to the water yourself to see if you can spot anything mysterious. Stop at Nessieland to explore its caves and visit the adventure playground. Striking Urquhart Castle, almost 17 miles from your base, is also close by and is well worth a trip. These beautiful ruins sit on a rocky promontory, overlooking out over the loch and embodying centuries of history. Head up to the battlements and pause to gaze down into the prison area.
