The quaint village of High Lorton has a restaurant, pub, tennis courts, fishery and a small shop with delicious local produce and local handcrafted gifts. Buttermere and Crummock Water are both within 6 miles, the wonderful walk around Crummock Water is just over 11 miles, take a detour to Scale Force, a dramatic waterfall. Whinlatter Forest is under 4 miles away with mountain bike trails, Go-Ape and osprey viewing. The market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth, both are under 10 miles away with independent shops and restaurants. As you enter the property into the cosy lounge, you will find a Smart TV and DVD player, multi-fuel wood burner, comfy sofas and a sociable dining area. The lounge has views across open fields and offers a lovely space to relax in the evening, watch a good movie or enjoy a board game. The kitchen is accessed via a couple of steps from the lounge. You will find informal dining in the kitchen, the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or breakfast, there is an induction hob and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and Lavazza coffee machine. The staircase leads off the lounge up to the first floor. There is a twin bedroom, family bathroom next door with a bath and WC and a king-size master bedroom accessed up three steps with an original beamed ceiling and a low window where you can wake up to views over the fields. Head back outside, down the stone staircase onto the ground level and you will find a great snug/games room under the main house (accessed via an external entrance). The kids will love this independent space to play table football or if you are looking to escape with a good book, this is the perfect retreat!

The property has plenty of lockable storage - perfect for bikes and kayaks accessed externally, this space also houses the washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a shared courtyard to the rear of the property where you can enjoy an early morning coffee or sit out with a drink on a nice evening. Just outside the cottage is the Whitbeck, flowing alongside the village hall gardens which are open to the public. We had a wonderful holiday and hope to return. Everything was clean and attractive. The beanbags are no longer there in the games room but plenty of DVDs and a retro atari games console. We walked several of the "Wainwrights" and enjoyed the books and OS maps to help with this. The water gets nice and hot and "boosts" quickly for a bath. A great cottage in a great location, really comfortable and warm considering the winter weather. Spent a week over Christmas and was able to walk everyday without having to drive to far, Buttermere and Crummock are within 15 minutes. Whinlatter is also just up the road and great for forest walking.

Over bath shower required and a toilet that does not require flushing 5 times after use would be good. The bathroom blind requires replacement or repair. The provision of wine glasses would also be useful. Compared to other cottages we have had in the area, the property was pretty average.

The location and views the property have to offer are amazing. We parked up the line by the side of the property but it is tight for a larger car. The steps are also steep so need to be mindful of these especially in the winter. The property is relaxing giving easy access to Keswick and buttermere.
