Tucked away in the Grisedale Valley, it is located after the farm road finishes, making it ideal for anyone seeking solitude. Head off from here on foot to explore the Helvellyn range; climb St Sunday Crag, just over 1 mile away; see serene Grisdale Tarn, about 2.5 miles away. Hike 4 miles to impressive Aira Force Waterfall and take in the views over Ullswater. Catch a steamer from Aira Force to Pooley Bridge, where you can hire your own boat if you wish. Head to Penrith, 14.5 miles away, to go shopping and dine out.

Find your way to this rural idyll, once home to cattle and now an inviting, stylish sanctuary with an abundance of character features, including exposed beams and stonework. This has a rustic stone feature wall, bath with shower above, WC and hand basin plus an electric towel rail. Take a few steps up from the hall to discover the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its vaulted ceiling, skylight windows, gorgeous old A-frame beams and natural stonework. Chose a DVD, then relax on the sofa in here to watch it or select some music for the CD player to listen to as you prepare a delicious dinner for two. Find the kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer section, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Whip up a meal then dine together at the table. At the end of long days out exploring the Lake District, lay your head in the double bedroom and wake up to leafy views.

The barn is in a secluded spot, as proved by the access across two fields, but the effort to get there was well worth it. Plenty of walks from the house meant we did not have to use the car. However we made use of the 2 bus fare scheme to start two of our walks from the Kirkstone Pass.

I spent a very comfortable week at Cruck Barn as a solo traveller. The Barn along with Elmhow are the last populated places in Grisedale so you really feel like you are away from it all. Having stocked up initially I was able to treat the Barn as a base without needing to anything other than decide which Fells to explore in the area. Dishwasher andRead more washing machine very handy. Heated bathroom floor along with hot towel rail a bonus. Hide

We stayed at Cruck barn for a week, the location is perfect with the most stunning views and walks right on your doorstep also the view of a waterfall out of the dining area window. The barn is very well equipped, although if you need supplies the nearest shops are in glenridding which isnt too far away. We definitely recommend a trip on the ullswaRead moreter steamers which again is very close by. There are so many walks near by that youre spoilt for choice. Would definitely stay again. Hide

Superb location for hiking from the cottage. Bit of a long walk to the village if you fancy a pint but not impossible, the cottage is beautifully situated and has such charm inside we completely fell in love with it. Clean, warm and fully equipped its an ideal off the grid retreat and we will definitely be back next year.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Cruck Barn. The road and track to the barn wasnt as bad as I was expected, a normal car is absolutely fine as long as you dont speed down the track! It is beautifully located in a peaceful spot and an ideal base to walk Helvellyn. The barn was really cosy, comfortable and had everything we could want. The inRead moreternet was great with Netflix and iPlayer options on the TV. The views from every aspect are stunning. Ultimately we didnt want to leave! Hide

Excellent base to explore Ullswater and the Grisedale valley. The cottage is lovely to stay in with exposed beams and yet it is very modern too. With the location you certainly feel you are getting away from it all

Great location for walkers - didn't use the car in two weeks. Clients need to be aware the view from the cottage is very limited as it is situated behind a barn and ElmHow holiday cottage. Otherwise perfect.
