Property code: CA131

Stunningly renovated old schoolhouse within an acre of garden near Inverness, brimming with character and thoughtful touches.

This unique property is located on the edge of Muir of Ord, an enchanting Scottish village on the western boundary of the Black Isle. The building once served as a schoolhouse to the village, and less than half a mile from the door you'll find a local shop, bakery, fish and chip shop, restaurants and a golf club. Only 13 miles from the Highland capital, Inverness, everything you'll need is close by, be it peaceful walking country or busy city shops. A trip out on the water to look for Nessie is certainly on the cards, as Loch Ness is only 16 miles from your door.

Tastefully updated yet retaining its traditional charm, the interior is pretty and inviting. On the ground floor, an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is complete with oak flooring, high ceilings and stylish pendant lighting. The kitchen area is contemporary and well-equipped, contrasting beautifully with the antique dining table and chairs. Gather for meals here before sinking into the sofas for popcorn and a DVD, wood burner crackling beside you. The master king-size bedroom is well furnished with a wrought-iron bedstead and ornamental fireplace, and benefits from a contemporary en-suite shower room too. Also on the ground floor is the spacious family bathroom, cheerfully decorated with a quirky purple roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle. Venturing upstairs, you'll find another stunning bedroom, furnished in rich blues with a beautiful antique bed that is a small double.

Stepping outside, al fresco dining is a must on warm summer evenings as there's a delightful patio set up with garden furniture. Take your evening drinks out here while the sky turns pink, or have a wander around the acre of garden that the house sits on. There's an unfenced burn (a Scottish stream) that runs through the garden, so please ensure that children and dogs are supervised; rest assured that the garden is enclosed so there's no easy access to the nearby road.

Would give Evelix a 5* review - well equipped, clean and comfortable. The enclosed garden was a bonus. Interesting places to visit within easy travelling distance.

Lovely cottage. Good size for 4 people. Beautiful main bathroom. Dog friendly but had to keep on lead in garden as he could get through gate. Only problem we had, it was way too hot and although it was the holiday season the owner himself came out and it was sorted.

Our stay at Evelix was perfect. The old school house was homely, cosy and had everything we needed for our relaxing evenings. The house has been renovated to a high standard and we loved everything about it. Cherry had great communication and we appreciated the homemade cake, it was great with a cup of tea!!

This cottage is in a very good location to explore the Highlands, the Black Isle and Inverness. It is a good setting and comfortable. There were issues with the boiler cutting off overnight making it very cold in the morning and with not hot water. Every time it happened, it was dealt quickly but just shame it happened more than once.

A sensitive restoration of an old school which retains some period features alongside modern conveniences and quality furnishings. Evelix was warm and comfortable on our arrival at night, with a nice lemon cake and a bottle of wine to welcome us. We stayed downstairs as we were only two, and enjoyed a much-needed rest as we celebrated our silver wedding anniversary.

We just had the most wonderful week at Evelix. It was so much bigger and lovelier than its photos showed. The decor is a delight, homely but luxurious. The towels were the most sumptuous that weve ever experienced. Wonderful after a soak in that stunning tub. Location wise, Muir of Ord is excellent, quiet countryside but close enough to see all that the Highlands has to offer. Loved it. Hide

This is a great property. Well located for exploring the far North and also the areas around Loch Ness. Very helpful owners and a really great place to stay. The local community are very friendly and Bad Girls Bakery and The Muir Hub are highlights. Local COOP was being rebuilt when we were there but should be up and running soon.

The garden was nice, big and secluded but being a keen gardener myself although there were some lovely climbing roses surrounding the house, there were also some overgrown weeds around the garden boundaries. I know you cant plant summer bedding in a holiday property, but spending the time to plant some nice shrubs and perennial flowers will make thRead moree gardens amazing, especially getting different ones flowering in separate seasons. Evelix is a very nice and spacious cottage with a very comfortable living room (the former class room, I suppose), two cosy bedrooms and two well-equipped bathrooms. Muir of Ord may not be a very exciting place in itself, but there are many interesting sights in the area and most of the shopping can be done in nearby Beauly.
