This 300-year-old cobb cottage is located in a traffic-free zone in the harbour town of Brixham, one of three towns clustered around the bay of Torbay in South Devon. The town has a proud maritime history, and the harbour is still the thriving centre of the town today, with fishing vessels, tour boats, and the Torquay ferry running to and fro. There are a number of beaches in the town, including the quiet St Mary’s Bay, the main Breakwater Beach and Shoalstone with its impressive 53-metre tidal pool. For those who want to find out more about the town’s heritage, there is a wonderfully constructed replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship, The Golden Hind, moored up at the harbour, offering five decks of hands-on exhibits to explore.

Take your time walking through the traffic-free area that surrounds the cottage and access the entrance via a set of steep steps. This memorable property is full of cottage culture and traditional touches that make it a lovely cosy seaside retreat. It has been thoughtfully styled with antique furniture to offer a wonderful place to stay. Upon entering the cottage, guests will find themselves in the open-plan living space with cosy underfloor heating, an attractive beamed ceiling, and a warming wood burner. The kitchen has been hand-built with reclaimed wood and is equipped with everything you might need for a seaside stay - there’s even a breakfast bar seating three and a coffee machine for that morning caffeine hit. The lounge area has a comfortable sofa and two easy chairs from which to enjoy the Smart TV, or you can just spend the evening chatting around the wood burner. The furniture might not always match but these quirky stylings are in keeping with the age and character of the cottage. Steep cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor, where the first of the two bedrooms can be found, along with the shower room which offers a compact shower and WC. This bedroom is a charming double room with a beamed ceiling, and a built-in dressing table and wardrobe. The master bedroom, on the second floor, is a stunning room, with its double bed, sloping ceiling, and French window which opens onto a Juliet balcony offering glimpses of the sea.

Outside, to the front of the property, is an enclosed seating area with a table and chairs, which makes an ideal spot for enjoying al fresco drinks among the potted plants and wall climbers.

  • Roadside parking in near by road (subject to availability) or the nearest pay and display car park is Oxen Cove Car park
  • Arrival: 15:30 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £150 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £20. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

A lovely quirky cottage in an excellent location to access the town for food and drinks. Not suitable for those with limited mobility

Lovely, quirky cottage which is well equipped and tastefully furnished. The location is wonderful, but also a drawback for those with mobility issues: many steps and mostly uphill. Close to all you need: bars, cafes, shops, and a short drive from many wonderful places to visit. It is a teeny house but a perfect, cosy spot for two. We loved the log Read moreburner and the view over the rooftops. Also, loved imagining the smugglers running through the front and escaping through the window at the back! Hide

Nice tiny cottage well placed in Brixham.I think it is perfect for a couple but not for a family. Steps are quite steep up to the cottage so not for a anyone who is not reasonably fit We enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to friends

Yong Seagulls jump up and down when getting fed just above your head in the top bedroom, this starts at around 4.30am so we were sleeping in the small bedroom below. Fledgling in early July. A lot of steps from the road up to the house 100+? Apart from that we had a lovely time.

We loved the location and the cottage has a lot of character, it was a very comfortable place to stay, however we were disappointed with the cleanliness.

Nice spot, but the wees were not treated, the trees and bushes in the enclosed courtyard left it almost unusable. We didn't appreciate the scale of steepness if the approach to the cottage and the trickyness of the stairs in the house. Only got any sun for a couple of hours in the morning so would have liked a bit more option to sit in the sun on tRead morehe courtyard. Lovely place but to challenging for us in future Hide

Nice little cottage, lovely view from top bedroom. No advised for very tall people like us and steep narrow spiral staircase. But very compact and comfortable in a great location, central for the harbour and amenities.

Great location for town but not for people who struggle with steps/uneven paths. Parking at Oxen Cove car park not too far away and level. Lovely cosy cottage and well equipped with starter pack from the host. Enjoyed some great restaurants in Brixham and lovely coast walks

The cottage is lovely and quaint. We'll equipped and the upstairs was lovely an and light. Bed on top floor not very comfy though. Brilliant location. Shame the town was mainly closed but a lovely relaxing holiday. Thank you

I have had a fabulous holiday, the dog friendly cottage is a great with the harbour and south coast path minutes away. The car park is located a few minutes walk from the cottage which is well equipped, cosy and a joy to stay in, it is tucked away from the road with a lovely outside space. Right in the heart of brixham 5 mins to shops Amazing view from 3rd floor! Lots of steep steps so not for the less agile Parking - if your prepared to walk - lots of free parking at the top, via corkscrew bend Plenty of shops, fish and chips close by, and we saw seals in the harbour! Lovely cottage .. great for coastal path . Lots of steps to access cottage but not a problem. Parking is in car park which is a walk away & is 54 for 8 days.
