The cottage dates from around 1850 and is situated in the conservation area of Wirksworth. Designed for couples who want a homely base when exploring the Peak District National Park.

Wirksworth is a small market town situated just a few miles from Matlock and only 2 miles from the Peak District National Park. Explore nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail, which are accessible directly from the cottage for those who enjoy walking. The Wirksworth Festival, held each September, sees the town turned into an open gallery with access to artists’ houses and a programme of live music and entertainment. With an art deco independent cinema, Heritage Centre, a range of places to eat and some lively real ale pubs, there is plenty to entertain. The Ecclesbourne Valley heritage railway has a station in Wirksworth and the weekly market and monthly farmers' market provide local produce and crafts. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its cable car.

The main entrance to the cottage is through the stable-style front door, into the cosy lounge with characterful stone fireplace and wood burning stove. There is a comfortable sofa, TV, DVD player and range of books and games to help you relax and unwind. Wander through to the adjoining kitchen equipped with electric oven and gas hob, microwave and fridge, perfect for rustling up a meal if the delights of town can’t tempt you. Enjoy lazy breakfasts at the dining table while planning the day’s activities ahead. From the kitchen, head up the steep stairs to the first floor to reach the bedroom with country pine furniture and double bed. The spacious bathroom offers an bath, separate shower and WC, catering to all your needs.

Leaving the cottage from the kitchen door takes you into one of the narrow paths of the Puzzle Gardens and gives access to the small garden through a shared gate. There is a table and chairs should the weather be kind enough to sit out. The cottage does not offer private parking yet parking can be found a short walk away.

This is a great little cottage - well placed for the Dales and the Peaks - a really interesting area. The cottage is quite a climb from the town and there is no vehicle access to the cottage. There is parking nearby but this can be problematic and access to the cottage is difficult for the elderly and those with mobility problems. I am in my late 7Read more0's and did struggle getting up the hill from town after an evening meal! But if you are reasonably fit go for it. We had a great time. Hide

Beautiful cottage, not overly cluttered but enough to make it homely. Very clean which is a must for me. Right on Wirksworth's town doorstep, so perfect. Really enjoyable break.

Beautiful little cottage in a fantastic location. Easy walk into town for pubs, restaurants, shops etc. Lovely walks locally and easy to access the National Park. Highly recommend a trip to the delightful Northern Lights Cinema. Vincent and Julia were helpful and quick to respond.

Neat as a pin and completely charming, this bijou cottage for two is a wonderful base for a stay in Wirksworth whatever the weather. 5 mins walk downhill into town for shops, pubs, restaurants and the fabulous independent Northern Light cinema and 10 mins walk uphill to the start of numerous local loop walks in the surrounding countryside. A really nice cottage located in a nice village. We found it easily enough from the supplied instructions and found a parking space with the easier climb. The cottage was warm and we lit the log bRead moreurner each evening. The village has food shops and take always and we had a meal in the local pub which was nice and good value. The petrol at the local garage must be the cheapest in England. Communication with the owners was excellent. Would definitely recommend the cottage.

I think more emphasis should be made about the access to the cottage.i.e. that because you cant take your car up to the house, everything has to be brought up by hand. If you arent used to steep slopes it would be a problem, especially if it was icy. But the situation was very handy for walking into town.

The cottage was very quaint and comfortable. However I feel that it should be emphasised that it is situated on a hill and access to it is not easy. Also anyone with mobility issues will find it difficult accessing the cottage.
