At a glance

  • Step back in time at this unique, characterful Cornish cottage, with rear garden and sea views
  • Just a short walk from the quiet sandy beach, local pub and quay in Polruan
  • An ideal base for walkers, families and couples looking to explore South Cornwall
Property code: 82806

A traditional cottage in the heart of the ancient fishing village of Polruan, with access to all Cornwall has to offer, and pretty Fowey with its pubs and restaurants a short ferry ride away.

The village itself has a small shop and a couple of pubs which serve food. There is a ferry service to Fowey which runs every 15 minutes, giving access to further shops, restaurants and pubs. There is only one road into Polruan, which ends by the quay close to the tidal beach, making the village a quiet and peaceful destination to retreat to. It is ideally situated for visiting attractions such as The Eden Project or Ferryside, where Daphne Du Maurier wrote her first novel. The property also offers easy access to the South West Coast Path.

Make your way up the stone steps into the entrance hall, hang up your hats and coats, and move into the lounge/diner. This very grand, colourful and light room is steeped in character and is the perfect place to relax, watch the TV and put your feet up in front of the wood burner after a long day in the sea air. There is plenty of room to sit and eat at the dining table, plus lots of space to entertain. Heading back out to the main hallway you will come to the well-equipped, galley-style kitchen complete with an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer. You can access the garden from the kitchen’s back door., through the communal courtyard and up a few steps. Heading upstairs, you have two bedrooms to choose from, a spacious twin room and a super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made into twins on request). This main bedroom is very light and spacious and offers fabulous views of the River Fowey. Back along the hall is the bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC, and a utility area housing a washer/dryer.

Outside there’s an enclosed sunny courtyard for dining alfresco and a separate garden which is accessed via a few steps– or for just sitting back and relaxing! Polruan has many small winding streets that are not suitable for cars, therefore many properties do not have private parking. However, there is a large pay and display car park at the top of the village.

Very comfortable cottage and well equipped but I cant emphasise enough that polruan is extremely quiet, unsuitable for young families and anyone who isnt fit or doesnt like hill walking. The best thing about Polruan is the view of Fowey across the estuary, so if you like eating out for instance there are only 2 pubs with very limited menus serving Read moremainly chips and pizza, theyre more local drinking pubs, the tea shop shuts at 2pm and closed all day Sunday. We absolutely loved Lee Cottage. It was very well equipped, better than most with a good size kitchen and living area. It was also full of wonderful paintings and memories of the current owners worldly adventures. There was also a fantastic array of reading material. We loved the quirky feel of this cottage which was not void of any character! The Read moreoutside area was fine for Polruan and excellent location for the shop, pub and beach. Hide

A wonderfully comfortable and cosy house. It was very well equipped and we enjoyed looking at all the paintings. A great location for the local store, bakery and ferry to Fowey.

The location of Lee House is fantastic and it is spacious. The decor is a little dated but it feels more like staying in someone's second home than in a holiday business. We had a few issues on arrival but the owner quickly sorted them. We took our dog but wouldn't do so again. The advert is misleading as the garden isn't secure - the back door opeRead morens to a communal courtyard which is open down some steps to the main road in Polruan. The actual cottage garden is up other steps with low walls. Hide

Perfect cottage to explore the south west path and hop on the ferry over to Fowey. The cottage had everything you might need for a weeks stay and had the most wonderful view from the upstairs bedroom. I miss waking up with it.
