Wonderfully located for walking and birdwatching, this home sits in a quaint hamlet of Dubwath, near Bassenthwaite Lake. The view from the living/dining room is breathtaking – bring your binoculars!

Thanks to the house’s location in Dubwath, near Bassenthwaite Lake, you can enjoy waterside wanders and leave the car at home. If it’s a hot day, jump in for a refreshing dip before you continue your stroll. Whilst enjoying the sights and the tranquillity, keep your eyes peeled for osprey. Make the 6-mile trip to Mirehouse and Gardens, where you can follow the Rhododendron Walk and visit the lakeside church of St Bega. If there are any keen golfers on your party, Cockermouth Golf Club is less than 2 miles from your door and has lovely greens.  This part of the lakes is quickly growing as a go to destination for foodies with many delicious independent restaurants in easy reach, including the award wining Bassenthwaite Lake Station café.

Step inside the entrance hall which leads to a handful of useful rooms: a drying room for coats and boots, a laundry with washer/dryer, and a WC. Head up to the first floor and reach the bright kitchen, which has a quirky sloping ceiling, dishwasher, microwave, fan oven and induction hob. Once you’ve cooked, move to the dining table in the light, airy dining room to enjoy the stunning panoramic views. The table shares its space with the lounge, where there is a wood burner to keep the chills at bay and comfortable sofas and chairs arranged around a TV with DVD player. If you don’t fancy a night in front of the screen, enjoy the board games or delve into a book. The two bedrooms are also on this floor. One is a king-size, the other a twin that can be made up as a super-king-size on request. The bedrooms share the family bathroom, where you can soak in the bath or freshen up in the walk-in shower.

If you need entertaining and there are competitive guests among you, head to the games room in the garage, complete with a table-tennis table for a fun-filled, family-friendly night in. Sit on the benches in the enclosed garden with a drink in hand while you wait your turn. There is off-road parking for two cars in front of a garage. There is also space next to the gates for other cars to park on the road.

  • 2 bedrooms: 1 king-size, 1 twin (can be made up as a super-king-size if requested at time of booking)

Really well provisioned accommodation, great location - isolated but very close to towns and tourist areas. Very comfortable beds and amazing views throughout the living areas. Friendly host with very easy check in/check out - car parking on site. Nearby bus stops for travel to into Keswick.

We really enjoyed our stay at Owls Roost and hope to return. A great location out of the tourist traps. Although we didn't use it, public transport links seem great if you don't have a car. Great wildlife in the area too.

This cottage is more of an apartment and not as spacious as the photos make out. The views are great if you look one way but not so nice when looking out to the left as this is an unused farm. It is in a great area for access to Cockermouth and Keswick and is also on a bus route. You can hear the A66 with the windows open but this didnt spoil our hRead moreoliday. All in all it wasnt right for us as a family but may suit a couple without children. Hide
