Families and friends can find their own little piece of paradise in this sweet period abode, in the picturesque heart of Birnam. The village famously features in Shakespeare's ‘Macbeth'; the 500 year old Birnam Oak is 250 metres away. With its dramatic bridge over the River Tay, romantic cathedral, superb restaurants, speciality shops and quaint, brightly coloured houses, Dunkeld is one of Perthshire's gems; the cathedral is the resting place of the notorious ‘Wolf of Badenoch', rumoured to have played chess with the devil at Huntingtower Castle (14 miles). Immerse yourself in the verdant tranquillity of The Hermitage (2 miles), discover Ossian's Hall and walk the rumbling bridge with its turbulent water below creating a rumbling sound. Visit iconic Scone Palace (18 miles) and spectacular Castle Menzies (22 miles). Find fabulous golf courses at Dunkeld, Blairgowrie (13 miles) Gleneagles (30 miles) and St Andrews (50 miles) , and enjoy a spot of fishing in the River Tay.

Inside the cottage you'll find an intimate rustic ambience. Through the entrance hall you'll find the cosy sitting room, the perfect place to share a whisky or three after wild Scottish days of adventure; the stone fireplace's height and oak beam add unique old country charm. Prepare a feast of fine local fare in the streamlined kitchen and savour it in the wood-panelled galley style dining space. Unwind in the ground-floor bathroom's steaming tub, before retiring to your sweet and soulful bedrooms; both the double and twin have delightful beds, fabrics and a relaxing country feel; the double has an en-suite with shower.

Take to the wide front patio for bright morning coffee and croissants and tempting evening red wine and Scottish seafood. The welcome pack of sumptuous local delights will provide a taste of the tremendous treasures to come.

We had clear instructions on finding the cottage. Ideal location for exploring both locally and surrounding areas. The Hermitage walk is amazing and you must do this as well as continuing on to the Rumbling Bridge. We also visited the Birks of Aberfeldy which are absolutely stunning. We would also highly recommend the Scottish Deli tapas night in DRead moreunkeld as well as Zs Bistro/ Atholl Arms, which, like most of the area are extremely dog friendly. Hide

Great little cottage within walking distance of all the shops, cafes and hotels of Dunkeld and Birnam. Beautiful walks from the cottage along the river Tay or in the woods. Despite being close to the A9 main road we couldn't hear the traffic at the cottage. Very well equipped with everything you need and a great welcome pack.

I can't think of any improvements as the cottage was perfect, so warm and cosy. The surrounding glorious countryside offers some lovely walks, and we found everywhere, including shops, cafes and restaurants very dog friendly. Dunkeld stands out as particularly welcoming to dogs and their owners. Douglas
