Those looking for more of an adventure, hike Goatfell, 4.5 miles away, or travel 8 miles across the island to see the Machrie Standing Stones.

Enter the property via the patio to the rear and head straight into the open-plan living space. This homely lounge has been decorated to a high standard, and every inch of the space is utilised well. With the village of Brodick so close, there is plenty to do and see within walking distance. Brodick Beach is wild and sandy, with wonderful views over to the snow-capped mountain peaks beyond. The quieter beach of Strabane, or Duke's Beach, is just the other side of the Rosa Burn. There are also numerous shorefront walks from the village and the harbour area is a wonderful place to spend a few hours exploring the excellent local pubs, cafes and shops.

Brodick Castle, a National Trust property surrounded by a country park, is 1.5 miles from the property. It is a grand baronial castle set in grounds with woodland trails where you can spot red squirrels and waterfalls and ponds.

Away from Brodick, there is more excellent walking, both along the coast and in the hills. The Arran Coastal Way offers some spectacular views and is a great way to explore the island and its many seaside villages.

For golfers, there are seven golf courses across the island, many of them with spectacular views. In the village of Lamlash, 4 miles away, there is an outdoor centre where you can arrange sea kayaking and canoeing. Wildlife spotting boat trips can also be arranged.

The sea view from the large bedroom window is mesmerizing & you find yourself ship spotting whenever you pass it. The furnishings & all equipment, (even the cutlery), are just right. Our recent much needed break on the beautiful island of Arran was enhanced in no small measure by the beautiful cottage annexe that is St. Minver. The enclosed private garden to the rear was a Read moreperfect spot to enjoy an all fresco wine (or two!!) and the quirky plant containers made us smile. This wouldn't be possible without John and Ann who were just terrific. From picking us up at the ferry to offering us advice on sightseeing on the island (Glen Rosa was inspiring....thanks John!),nothing was too much trouble. We booked an additional night we enjoyed our stay so much. Should we return to Arran, and we certainly hope to, St. Minver cottage will be out first stop. Hide
