Biggar itself is a vibrant, historic market town, with a great selection of independent shops and eateries. The town is well-known for its Victorian puppet theatre, as well as the annual arts festival that takes place every October, called the Biggar Little Festival. Another brilliant celebration that takes place annually is the Hogmanay bonfire that dates back to the pagan times, and is the Scottish equivalent of the New Year celebration. The evening includes a torchlight parade with pipers and drummers, as well as the huge bonfire.
