Property code: 77882

This traditional cottage has stunning views of Loch Ranza and the ruined castle at its heart. Surrounded by dramatic peaks and wild coast, it is ideally situated for experiencing Arran’s natural beauty and fascinating wildlife.

Lochranza, which is built around the sea loch of the same name, is in the North Arran National Scenic Area (Scotland’s equivalent of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Arran’s longest stretch of wild coastline and some of its best hill walks are on the doorstep. There is an abundance of wildlife to spot. Otters and seals swim in the bay, golden eagles nest in the nearby hills and dolphins and porpoises are regular visitors. Red deer and red squirrels can be seen without even leaving the cottage. The village is home to the Arran distillery, with visitor centre and cafe, and the popular Stags restaurant and Sandwich Station takeaway. It is also the port for the ferry to the Kintyre peninsula and in summer it’s possible to take a day trip, perhaps to visit Skipness Castle or the tiny island of Gigha. Golfers are well-served by Arran’s nine varied courses, one of which is in Lochranza, and for water lovers, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and gorge-walking are all on offer. Other island attractions include Brodick castle and gardens (with adventure playground), a marine discovery centre, a geology centre and a heritage museum.

The cottage has been sympathetically renovated and retains its period charm. The kitchen/diner has a Rayburn for both cooking and central heating and a wood burner for extra cosiness. For convenience, there’s an additional electric hob and combi microwave oven, plus fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. From the table, you can enjoy views over the bay, with Lochranza castle at its heart, and the open sea beyond. On the other side of the hall is the comfortable sitting room, with similarly spectacular views and an open fire. It has a sofa bed for extra sleeping space, if required. Also off the hall is a toilet, tucked under the stairs, which looks out onto the cliff behind the house. Stripped wooden stairs lead to the light and airy first floor, with two spacious double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower over the bath. A single put-me-up bed, or cot, can be added to either or both bedrooms on request.

The garden slopes down towards the sea and has a seating area with waterfall, plus a secluded side garden.

Cannot recommend this property highly enough. Overlooking Lochranza bay it is large, well equipped and comfortable. The ferry to the peninsular and local bus stop are both within 3mins walking. There is a small shop in Pinmirl (10 min drive away) but the nearest supermarket is in Brodick (.14 miles away) There is no pub in the village of Lochranza.Read more This is an exceptional property and perfect for both people and a dog ! We absolutely loved this cottage - perfect location, beautiful view and so quiet. The garden was full of birds, there were deer wandering around, and seals on the other shore. The house itself has been lovingly restored and is full of character, and has everything you need in the kitchen.; very comfy beds and a lovely garden. We'll be back!

We had a lovely stay at The Moorings during a wet and wild week of weather. The cottage was a perfect (and very cozy) base from which to enjoy beautiful Arran. All in all, we couldn't fault it! Weve just had a week in the cottage which was perfect. Loved the old school charm of the place but all the comfort of modern living. The location is exceptional and rooms really spacious. The local produce on arrival was a lovely touch. The kids loved exploring around the castle and along the beaches. Cant wait to go back again.
