A home-from-home whilst exploring local Galloway, this cosy cottage is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway or trip with friends.

With Galloway Forest Park on your very doorstep, you won't struggle to find activities and pursuits for even the most adventurous outdoorsmen. Head to an outdoor activity centre just 6.5 miles away and partake in a host of activities, including windsurfing, archery, kayaking and mountain biking. If you prefer to enjoy the area on foot, summit Mochrum Fell, Cairnsmore or Fell of Fleet, all accessible within 20 miles of your home. Those who prefer to while away a day fishing, the local Loch Ken (6.5 miles) is teeming with pike, roach, perch and bream. Look out for local wildlife on your travels, including otters, red kite and red deer. A local hotel with bar and restaurant can be found just 2.5 miles away, a good distance for a charming country walk.

This spacious property is all set out on one level, accessible via an outdoor ramp leading to the front door. Once inside you'll head straight through to the contemporary kitchen and dining room, a sociable space to enjoy a lazy breakfast or romantic evening meal. This room boasts electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and a washing machine, as well as lovely views out to the rear landscape. Next door, a spacious living room is a lovely space to relax, and French doors open out onto the garden, letting fresh air breeze through. Here you can enjoy some TV, or turn out the double sofa bed and get to sleep. The bedroom is a bright and airy double with a comfy bed, and in a separate room, you'll find a bathroom with WC and shower. Travel through the property via original farmhouse doors and past oak beams, for a truly authentic countryside experience.

Enjoy a wonderfully peaceful surrounding area, outside you'll find a spacious garden set to lawn with four steps leading up and a gravel driveway to park a car. There's an outdoor picnic bench here, so you can soak in the last of the summer sun and enjoy a glass of wine.

The area surrounding the cottage is a haven for nature lovers with wildlife walks through The Glenkens and the Galloway Hills offering opportunities to see red squirrels, otters and even the occasional golden eagle. The Ken-Dee Marsh (16 miles) is a RSPB reserve where white-fronted geese and black-headed gulls make their homes. Keep your eyes peeled for the red kites swooping overhead.

With over 7000 stars visible to the naked eye, the Galloway Forest Park is home to the UK's first Dark Sky Park, one of only four in the world and a special place to spend an evening. Overlooking the heart of the forest, Clatteringshaws (11 miles) offers some of the best viewing in the area. During the daytime, visit the Red Deer Range (15 miles) in the forest, where over 60 red deer live. Observe these magnificent creatures from the viewing hides and discover more about them from the knowledgeable forest rangers.

The 18th-century market town of Castle Douglas (15 miles) has been designated a ‘Food Town' where over 50 local businesses produce or sell quality food and drink, so this is the place to stock up on supplies for your stay. Take a tour of the town's acclaimed microbrewery and sample some of the craft ales produced by Sulworth Brewery. Enjoy dinner for two in one of the town's welcoming pubs and restaurants showcasing local ingredients.
