Or you could visit Loch Garten Nature Reserve and Osprey Centre to see spectacular creatures of a different kind. Loch Eilein (13.5 miles), hidden amongst a forest, is also a picturesque place for a walk with its 13thcentury castle ruins. A delightful cottage in a quiet and secluded setting, but still just 15 minutes walk to town. We enjoyed coffee in the courtyard and also used the kitchen to cook locally sourced meals. Plenty of shops in nearby Aviemore, but without the crowds. We also enjoyed visiting Castle Roy just north of town, and found this location to be a perfect jump-offRead more to trips to neighboring towns, paddling the Spey, the Scottish Highland Games, and a cool trip to the Torridon (a few hours drive). Highly recommend! Hide
