Sitting peacefully, in amongst one of Scotland's most historical landscapes, is this delightful cottage. Located in a magical-looking woodland, in a quiet and secluded location, visitors will feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Experience total relaxation during down-time at the stone-built house or head outdoors for a day of adventure nearby. Just 1.5 miles from the doorstep is Achnabreac, a site that's home to one of the finest set of pre-historic cup and ring marked rocks in Britain. It is also an adrenaline junkie's playground with an awesome mountain biking trail on offer. There's plenty to do moments from this property including boating on the Crinan Canal and visiting ruined landmarks including Castle Sween and Carnasserie Castle.

This bright and airy holiday home is filled with natural light making every room feel extremely welcoming. Step into the large entrance porch and into the hallway before exploring the spacious rooms that await you. Walk three steps down into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner: a fantastic area for socialising with friends or family. Light the cosy wood burner during a relaxing evening indoors or open the French doors and discover a glorious decked balcony with stunning views across the village of Cairnbaan. The kitchen is well-equipped with the essentials to cook scrummy meals during your stay and even comes with a washing machine. Enjoy dinner at the dining table before retiring to the comfy chairs in the lounge area. When it's time for bed, choose from one of two twin bedrooms, both located up three stairs. A bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a separate WC, complete the property.

A decked balcony with garden furniture is a wonderful place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or celebratory drink. Outside the cottage, a steep path leads down to a loch, which was once the site of a 19th-century slate quarry. Young children must be supervised on this path.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Wildlife abounds in this lesser-known natural landscape, with every chance of spotting roe deer, red squirrels, pine marten, and many varieties of birds during your stay. From the loch, climb the heather-clad hill opposite for impressive views along the Crinan Canal and towards the sea. Wander the towpath of the canal - described as Britain's most beautiful shortcut - which is excellent for keen walkers and cyclists. Head 6.5 miles to the sheltered sandy bay of Crinan Ferry Beach, located at the mouth of the River Add. From here, enjoy lovely views across to the 12th-century Duntrune Castle (also 6.5 miles), which is surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada. Discover more history at the Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Kilmartin Glen (6 miles), with a multitude of cairns, standing stones, stone circles, forts and castles to see and explore. For those wanting to get closer to nature, charter a boat from the nearby Crinan Harbour (5.5 miles) for a day of fishing, wildlife watching and island hopping, or venture further to the famous Gulf of Corryvreckan with its whirlpools and standing waves; here you have every chance of spotting eagles, dolphins or whales. For shops, restaurants and even a nine-hole golf course, head to nearby Lochgilphead town, just 3 miles from the cottage.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing break in this lovely cottage and location. Overall the cottage was very clean and tidy and location perfect. Perhaps not as well equipped as some other places in tems of kitchen utensils and games we have stayed and some form of freezer, even if just a freezer compartment in the fridge would have been helpful.
